The Housing Action Coalition (HAC) is a member-supported nonprofit that advocates for building more homes at all levels of affordability to help alleviate the Bay Area and California’s housing shortage, displacement, and affordability crisis.
We specifically support new multi-family housing projects that are well-designed, environmentally-sustainable, and located near jobs and transit. And we work hard in collaboration with pro-housing lawmakers and partners to enact new laws to make it faster, easier, and less costly to build homes for residents of all income levels.
Here are the latest development projects we’re proud to support.

What Our Members Say
“HAC is a truly great housing organization that does excellent work to advance sensible housing solutions. I’m proud to be a founding HAC member because its advocacy efforts and housing expertise has been invaluable both in supporting the provision of additional housing as a long-term goal in San Francisco and, in particular, my own firm’s recent development goals. Whether pushing for enormous projects like Treasure Island, supporting good housing legislation such as SB 35, or advocating for individual housing projects, HAC has always exceeded our expectations.”
“Being part of HAC has been game changing for us. We belong to many coalitions and membership organizations in housing, and I can honestly say that HAC really gets us. They consciously, uniquely, and directly always include “affordable homeownership” in all of their advocacy efforts and initiatives. They fight side by side with us in our efforts to build and sustain 100% affordable homeownership. HAC has been a resource to us and so many of our colleagues throughout California and we’re deeply grateful.”

“California’s future depends on more housing, both to solve the homelessness crisis and to have a robust equitable economy. The solution is a both/and push forward on every slice of the housing pie—a push the Housing Action Coalition has led for more than 20 years.”
