HAC Advisory Groups

Overview

The Housing Action Coalition's Advisory Groups provide members with direct opportunities to shape our work, share expertise, and influence housing policy and projects across California. These groups connect industry professionals with HAC staff and decision-makers to advance practical solutions to California's housing crisis. If you’re a member and want to sign up for an Advisory Group below.

Policy Advisory Group

Eligible Membership Tiers: Entry through VIP (all tiers)

What It Is: The Policy Advisory Group is HAC's go-to network for reviewing proposed legislation, providing technical feedback on housing policy, and ensuring our advocacy reflects real-world implementation challenges. Members help us refine policy positions, identify opportunities and risks in proposed laws, and connect policy outcomes to on-the-ground feasibility.

What You'll Gain:

Time Commitment: As-needed consultation via email or occasional meetings

HAC ED Learning Advisory Group

Eligible Membership Tiers: Entry through VIP (all tiers)

What It Is: The HAC ED Learning Advisory Group helps design and guide our member education programming, including webinars, workshops, site tours, and professional development opportunities. Members identify topics that matter most to the industry, suggest speakers and formats, and ensure HAC's educational offerings deliver real value.

What You'll Gain:

  • Input on HAC's educational programming and professional development opportunities

  • Early access to cutting-edge information on housing policy, technology, and best practices

  • Networking opportunities with industry leaders and innovators

  • Visibility for your expertise through potential speaking or panelist roles

  • Professional development opportunities aligned with your team's needs

Time Commitment: Monthly meetings (second Wednesday of each month, with fourth Wednesday as alternate) plus occasional ad-hoc meetings

Project Review Advisory Group

Eligible Membership Tiers: Entry through VIP (all tiers)

What It Is: The Project Review Advisory Group evaluates housing projects seeking HAC's endorsement and advocacy support. Members assess projects against HAC's criteria—including housing production, affordability, design quality, community engagement, and feasibility—and provide technical feedback to strengthen proposals. This group plays a critical role in determining which projects receive HAC's political support and public endorsement.

  • Insight into a diverse pipeline of housing projects across the state

  • Opportunity to provide technical expertise that improves project quality and feasibility

Time Commitment: Monthly meetings (first Wednesday of each month, with third Wednesday as alternate) plus occasional ad-hoc meetings

Political Endorsement Advisory Group

Eligible Membership Tiers: Signature and VIP only

What It Is: The Political Endorsement Advisory Group provides recommendations to HAC's 501(c)(4) board on candidate and ballot measure endorsements. This exclusive group helps identify and support pro-housing champions running for office and evaluate measures that could advance or hinder housing production. Members participate in the strategic political work that builds long-term housing policy success.

What You'll Gain:
