Regulatory Committee Recap | Housing for All: Policy & Implementation in the City of Oakland with Mayor Sheng Thao

This past Wednesday morning, HAC hosted our Regulatory Committee across the Bay in Oakland featuring Mayor Sheng Thao and several members of her administration to give updates on major Oakland housing policies and processes. For those who want to revisit the presentation, click here to download a copy!

Planning Bureau Deputy Director, Edward Manasse, presented the City’s current Long-Range Policy goals and implementation steps. These included the Housing Element implementation and the Downtown Oakland Specific Plan.

Housing and Community Development Director, Emily Weinstein, presented on Oakland’s affordable housing policies, covering current efforts to distribute Measure U monies and those that may come from the regional bond measure.

Oakland’s relatively new Citywide Permit Ombuds, Robin Abad, gave an overview of the City’s efforts to streamline and automate the permitting and entitlement processes.

Finally, the Mayor joined to give her vision for Oakland’s Housing future and to take questions from HAC members in-person and over Google Meet.

Thank you to Mayor Thao, Edward Manasse, Emily Weinstein, and Robin Abad for taking the time to share and answer questions with HAC’s members and partners. We are looking forward to continuing getting housing built together!
