Meet Our 2024 Housing Heroes
London Breed | San Francisco Mayor
Since taking office in 2018, Mayor Breed has made solving San Francisco’s pervasive housing challenges a top priority. Over the last six years, the Mayor has led key campaigns to accelerate San Francisco’s notoriously slow housing approvals process, advance rezoning legislation, and remove financial barriers to housing production. Moreover, Mayor Breed helped ensure San Francisco developed one of the strongest Housing Elements in the state.
Jay Bradshaw | Nor Cal Carpenters Union Executive Officer
Under the leadership of Jay Bradshaw, the Northern California Carpenters Union has become a vanguard for housing creation in California. Few individuals or organizations have been more impactful at shifting the tide in California to achieve key legislative victories.
The Nor Cal Carpenters Union, for example, was instrumental in fighting for the passage of three of the most important housing bills in modern California history: AB 2011, SB 423, and SB 4. Led by Jay Bradshaw, their organizing power pushed these bills across the finish line, helping to break down critical barriers and create new pathways to housing.
Terner Center for Housing Innovation (UC Berkeley) & Lewis Center for Regional Policy (UCLA)
Creating and implementing effective housing policy isn’t easy. Doing so requires data-driven research and high-quality analysis to help identify, develop, and advance the solutions that address our most intractable housing challenges.
We are proud to award the Terner Center for Housing Innovation and the Lewis Center for Regional Policy with a Housing Heroes Award, as they have established themselves as two of California’s most important thought leaders on housing policy.
