In a dense city, we have very few opportunities to transform acres of parking lots and old commercial buildings into housing and vibrant urban spaces. On September 3rd, the Planning Commission will hold their final informational hearing on 5M, a mixed-use development at Fifth and Mission Streets that would bring 630 market-rate and 212 permanently affordable homes to SoMa, as well as new jobs and publicly-accessible open space for everyone to enjoy. Sounds good, right? Not to everyone. There is significant organized opposition to this project and it needs your help to keep it moving forward. It’s important going into this last informational hearing that the Planning Commission sees support from San Franciscans, before they make their final vote on September 17th.
