The San Francisco Housing Action Coalition (SFHAC) is thrilled to announce the 2016 winners of the Housing Hero Award. This year, we will honor District 4 Supervisor Katy Tang and renowned journalist Kim-Mai Cutler. In just the past couple of years, these two ladies have been leaders in pushing for solutions to the affordability crisis and changing the conversation around housing in the Bay Area.
Supervisor Katy Tang
Katy Tang has been the District 4 Supervisor since February 2013. In her time in office, she has been an active voice for sensible housing solutions in the Sunset. She developed the Sunset District Blueprint, which among many things, has created a new framework for land use policies on the west side. She is also the sponsor of the Affordable Housing Bonus Program, San Francisco’s first attempt at adopting a local density bonus law and creating a middle-income housing program.
Kim-Mai Cutler
A seasoned technology journalist, Kim burst onto the housing scene in 2014 with the publication of her TechCrunch piece, “How Burrowing Owls Lead to Vomiting Anarchists (Or SF’s Housing Crisis Explained).” Since then, she’s continued to explore the intersection of the technology sector and the Bay Area’s political and cultural issues. Her work has reached new audiences and ignited a resurgence in housing advocacy throughout the region.
