Meet Our 2025 Housing Heroes

Governor Gavin Newsom and the California Legislature

California leaders made history in June by passing two new laws that made landmark changes to CEQA. The move represents one of the boldest pro-housing political actions in recent years, illustrating Governor Gavin Newsom and the legislature’s steadfast commitment to solving California’s housing crisis.

If heroes step up in moments of crisis, Gavin Newsom, Scott Wiener, Buffy Wicks, and the California legislature are true examples of Housing Heroes.

*Senator Scott Wiener and HCD Director Gustavo Velasquez will accept the award on behalf of the Governor and the legislature.

Nikki Beasley | Executive Director, Richmond Neighborhood Housing Services

Nikki is one of the most influential people in the Bay Area housing space. She is a tireless advocate who has dedicated her housing career to creating a more equitable and prosperous future for low-income families and communities of color.

We're proud to honor Nikki for launching the Emerging Developers Program — an innovative initiative designed to provide new and early career BIPOC homebuilders with the knowledge, technical expertise, and support to develop new housing.

Rochelle Mills | President & CEO, Innovative Housing Opportunities

As the President & CEO of Innovative Housing Opportunities, Rochelle drives the organization's mission to enrich communities by providing high-quality affordable housing and holistic services forward.

This year, in response to the recent fires, Rochelle's influence and impact were on display as she led heroic and timely efforts to help rebuild communities and restore hope in Los Angeles.
