Bike Parking in SF: Policy, Design, and Best Practices

The ultimate goal of this hour-long course is to acquaint architects and designers with best practices for designing indoor and outdoor bike parking. The course addresses a variety of solutions to the common challenges of creating functional and efficient bike parking, while offering a fluency in bike parking products, an understanding of cyclists’ needs, instruction on utilizing bike parking to optimize LEED points, and suggestions for integrating sound bike parking into overall building design.
Learning Objectives:
1. Identify different types of bicycle parking, including both short- and long-term, and be able to select the appropriate solution for different building markets.
2. Understand the needs of cyclists in order to design bicycle parking that will satisfy their requirements.
3. Maximize the number of LEED points on a building project through bicycle parking design.
4. Integrate sound bicycle parking into overall building design.
Speaker Bios:
Sarah Reiter is the category manager for commercial bike parking with Saris Cycling Group. In this role, Sarah directs product development, marketing, and strategic planning. She works closely with bike/ped coordinators and city officials from across the U.S. to determine best practices and market needs for bicycle infrastructure, parking, and storage solutions.
Andrew Dutton is a sales representative in the commercial bike parking department at Saris Cycling Group. He manages sales within design and government channels and works closely with architects, landscape architects, building contractors, property owners, urban designers and city planners throughout North America to promote and develop best bicycle parking solutions.
