17th Annual Housing Hero Awards (2019)
October 3, 2019 @ 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm PDT
Every year, we recognize worthy individuals or groups who have made exceptional contributions to creating housing at all levels of affordability. This year, the San Francisco Housing Action Coalition (SFHAC), the Bay Area Housing Advocacy Coalition (BayHAC), Presenting Sponsor Reuben, Junius & Rose, LLP, and Legacy Sponsor Related California will honor our 2019 Housing Heroes on Thursday, October 3rd at Bently Reserve from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM! The San Francisco Housing Action Coalition is also pleased to announce that our 2019 Housing Hero Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented by none other than the city’s own Senator Dianne Feinstein. Senator Feinstein (D-California) is pleased to award her longtime friend and colleague Bill Witte with a Lifetime Achievement Award.
RSVP and spread the word about the event on Facebook and Twitter using #HHA2019.

2019 Housing Heroes!
This year’s SFHAC Housing Hero is Supervisor Vallie Brown for her work on the Divisadero Neighborhood Commercial Transit Corridor (NCT) legislation. Her work with neighborhood stakeholders is already leading to the creation of new homes at all levels of affordability on Divisadero.
This year’s Lifetime Achievement Awardee is Bill Witte. While Mr. Witte is hardly finished, Related’s portfolio includes 16,000 new homes completed or under construction under his 30-year tenure. Prior to founding Related California, Mr. Witte served under Mayors Art Agnos and Dianne Feinstein and in our nation’s capitol at HUD.
The inaugural BayHAC Housing Hero is the CASA Compact team. This coalition of “major employers, for-profit and nonprofit housing developers, labor and environmental leaders, public policy and affordable housing advocates, transportation experts, charitable foundations, and elected officials” worked for years to develop this plan to find real space for compromise around 3 P’s: Production of new housing, Preservation of existing housing, and Protection of tenants. The coalition earned this award by showing a willingness to compromise and find politically realistic policy solutions to our affordability and displacement crisis. Accepting on their behalf are Michael Covarrubius, from TMG Partners, Michael Lane from Silicon Valley @ Home, and Judith Bell from the San Francisco Foundation.
