Honorees
Housing Hero Award – The Housing Caucus
Senator Scott Wiener has worked tirelessly to propose and pass ground-breaking pro-housing legislation. His hallmark SB 35 is currently being used to create hundreds of new homes at all levels of affordability in Cupertino, Berkeley, Emeryville, and San Francisco.
Senator Nancy Skinner authored SB 167, which strengthens the Housing Accountability Act. Passed in 1982, this law has been used by pro-housing advocates to hold cities accountable for denying code compliant housing.
Assemblymember David Chiu saw to the passage of AB 73, which streamlines the production of code compliant housing, and is currently helping create affordable homes in the Central SoMa plan.
Lifetime Achievement Award – Gabe Metcalf, President/CEO of SPUR
In his 21 years at SPUR, 13 of which were spent at its helm, Gabe oversaw the expansion of SPUR as the premier urbanist think tank. On his watch, the organization’s capacity grew to regional proportions, and his legacy will be felt in policy discussions for generations to come.
Posthumous Honor – Mayor Ed Lee
Mayor Lee’s tragic death denied the City of one of the greatest housing advocates of our generation. He spent a lifetime advocating for affordable housing. Before his passing, Mayor Lee announced an aggressive Executive Directive instructing City Departments to enable the building of 5000 new home every year. Mayor Breed has adopted Mayor Lee’s policy and is instructing her department leads to make Mayor Lee’s vision a reality. Come celebrate Mayor Lee’s life and vision of a San Francisco that excludes no one.
