District 6 Supervisor Jane Kim is proposing a city-wide Housing Balance initiative for the November ballot. It says that any market-rate housing project would need a separate conditional use approval by the Planning Commission if the City’s overall ratio of affordable housing to market-rate housing drops below 30 percent. This will increase the delays and risks to building new housing, both market-rate and subsidized, and goes against the Mayor’s goal of building 30,000 new homes, including 10,000 permanently affordable homes, by 2020.
Act now! Using our editable form below you can easily send the Mayor an email that asks him to step in and oppose this ballot initiative. This is not a solution to building new affordable housing.
