As construction and development costs continue to drastically surge in San Francisco, developers and contractors who participated in SFHAC’s 2018 Housing Index expressed a lack of confidence in the housing market compared to previous surveys. This shift in attitude can be linked to the lack of housing approvals in San Francisco, extremely restrictive zoning laws and rising construction costs that disincentive developers from building more housing. Given these unsettling features of our housing market, it is imperative that our City successfully implement policies that address its failing housing climate.
Following SFHAC’s Fall 2017 Housing Index, SFHAC continued the members-only survey this year for developers and contractors to voice their opinions on current and future market conditions. The results of the survey can be seen below:
The SF Housing Action Coalition will continue repeating this survey twice a year, Spring and Fall. As always, we welcome any member’s feedback on how we can improve this survey.
