Regulatory Committee: Dr. Ted Egan
October 9, 2015 @ 8:30 am - 10:00 am PDT
Dr. Ted Egan, the San Francisco’s Chief Economist, will present his findings on a displacement study being undertaken by the City. The report looks at the potential costs and benefits of both a short-term moratorium and an indefinite, or permanent, prohibition of market-rate housing in the Mission. In terms of potential costs, the report looks at the impact on citywide housing prices, eviction pressures, resources for affordable housing, and property tax revenue. For potential benefits, the report considers: the prevention of the loss of existing housing units and demolition evictions, discouraging gentrification, and easing the growth of rents and housing prices in existing housing in the neighborhood.
