October has always been an especially festive month as HAC gears up to honor our annual Housing Heroes, and this year we have more than ever to celebrate both as an organization and as pro-housing advocates.
With the addition of our two newest team members last month, HAC’s team has now doubled in size from four to eight in the last 18 months. We’ve also expanded our organizing department to serve all nine Bay Area counties, waged more robust legislative advocacy efforts in Sacramento than ever before, and grown our communications team to support our ever-increasing advocacy campaign work on behalf of housing development projects and state/local pro-housing policies.
In addition to celebrating HAC’s momentum, we’ve worked hard to help propel the pro-housing legislation – most notably SB 8, 9, and 10 – that the California state legislature passed last month and Governor Gavin Newsom is now signing into law.
Victories such as these are only made possible through the work of dedicated leaders across the public, private, and nonprofit sectors, which is why we consider our upcoming Housing Heroes awards program so important. And this year we’re delighted to honor a diverse range of visionaries, trailblazers, and risk takers who have made exceptional contributions to creating more housing at all levels of affordability and fostering more diverse, equitable, and inclusive communities across the Bay Area and beyond.
In addition to celebrating our 2021 Housing Heroes, we’ll also toast to the everyday efforts of HAC members to help make our state and region more accessible and affordable. I hope you’ll join us on Wednesday, October 13 at 5pm to appreciate what we’ve all accomplished together.
