We recently announced that Governor Brown wants to make housing that meets certain conditions as-of-right (also called ‘by-right’). This would make it significantly easier to build market-rate and affordable homes next to transit in San Francisco. The measure has received significant support from urbanists and people have been sending postcards to their legislators to move the measure forward. Unfortunately, some of our local Supervisors aren’t so enthusiastic.
There will be a resolution introduced at the full Board meeting on Tuesday, June 7 to request San Francisco be exempt from Governor Brown’s measure. However, in order for the resolution to pass, the measure needs support from all 11 Supervisors. It only takes one Supervisor to oppose the resolution for it not to pass.
The Supervisors and San Francisco’s legislative delegation in Sacramento need to hear from you. Contact them to let them know you want as-of-right housing. Use #AsofrightSF on Twitter. If you’re not sure who your Supervisor is, you can use the Planning Department’s Property Map to find out.
